MBD Travel Mijas Guide
More than a list of sights: a practical guide to planning the order of your trip, choosing where to stay and adapting the plan to the season.
Mijas Guide 2026
Mijas is a white-painted hill village on the Costa del Sol in southern Spain, on a mountain slope south-west of Málaga. Narrow lanes, flowered terraces and views of the sea set it apart from the coastal resorts, at a slower pace.
What to see in Mijas
- White houses and narrow lanes: paved streets you cover on foot in the village centre.
- Terraces facing the sea: from the slope you can see the Mediterranean coast.
- Donkey taxis: the village's well-known short rides for visitors.
- The Virgen de la Peña chapel: a small chapel cut into the rock in the village.
When to go
July and August average a high of 30 to 31 degrees, with 1 to 5 millimetres of rain. January ranges from 15 to 9 degrees. March is the wettest month with 168 millimetres. To avoid the heat, go early in the morning, or choose April or October.
Getting there from Turkey
MBD's Spain and Andalusian Cities Tour stops in Mijas on the same day as Málaga ("Cordoba, Mijas and Malaga"). You do not need a separate night for the village: the tour runs 6 to 7 nights, and one option flies direct from Izmir with SunExpress. Dates and prices are on the tour page.
Who it suits
Fans of white-village charm and photography, and anyone who wants a half day away from the crowds. The village is on the slope, not on the coast, so you need to go down to the shore for a beach.
