Karlovy Vary Guide 2026
Karlovy Vary is a spa town in the west of the Czech Republic, stretched along the Teplá river in a wooded valley. Hot springs, pastel-coloured buildings and long colonnades have made it a well-known day trip from Prague.
What to see in Karlovy Vary
- The Vřídlo spring: the best-known hot spring in town.
- The colonnades: covered walkways over the springs, where visitors drink the mineral water.
- The Teplá bank: spa hotels with pastel facades and cafes along the river.
- Valley walks: paths climbing the wooded slopes around the town.
When to go
July and August average a high of 24 degrees. January ranges from 3 to minus 3 degrees. March is the driest month with 46 millimetres, and July gets 90. May to September suits spa visits and walks, and winter is quiet and cold.
Getting there from Turkey
In MBD's Central Europe and Prague tours, Karlovy Vary can be reached two ways: as a day trip in the Prague programmes or as a day that also covers Prague's palaces. The main tours are the 5 to 7 night Central Europe tour and the 3-night Prague City of Bridges Tour, departing from Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Dates and prices are on the tour page.
Who it suits
People who enjoy rest, spa culture and quiet walks, and those who want to add a day to a Prague programme. If you want nightlife, it will feel small.
