Hotel Santiago Plaza, Affiliated by Meliá

Stayed here as a treat for finish my Camino. Upon entering, the hotel has been remodeled beautifully, but the rooms need a major remodel. A good night sleep didn’t happen during my three night stay. I had to use the extra comforter in the closet to help somewhat soften the mattress…it helped but only slightly. Breakfast in the morning was lovely with a lot of options. I ordered a bottle of sparkling water to take with me on my walk, but they wouldn’t sell one to me which was the weirdest thing. They would only sell me a regular bottle of water…weird. The worst part is the rate of the rooms. The online booking told me one amount but when I paid for my stay at the end, each night was €30-€40 euros higher. I was told rates change based on availability. Management was no help in honoring the amount I originally booked for. Bottom line, book elsewhere. This place is a 30 minute walk away from the center of town. And while the interior of the lobby looks nice, it falls short with horrible beds, leaking shower, poor coffee maker in the room, and the lack of customer service.

Good value for money overall. The location is average, not particularly central, but very practical if you have a car, with easy motorway access and free parking spots just steps from the hotel. The breakfast area is on the smaller side and gets quite busy during peak hours, so I'd recommend heading down early. The staff are genuinely friendly and helpful, which really adds to the experience. One thing to note: coffee machine and kettle seem to be available in superior rooms only, not in standard rooms, a little surprising and worth keeping in mind when choosing your room category. Solid stay, would return.

We are a family of two adults and one 4-year-old child. We contacted the hotel to ask if they could provide an extra bed for our child, but they refused and required us to book two separate rooms instead. This is not a practical or reasonable solution for a family with a 4-year-old. We were very disappointed by the lack of flexibility and empathy shown toward families, especially as this is not the level of service we have come to expect from Meliá hotels.
