Hotel Grande Bretagne, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Athens

Great location! Walking distance to everything, Plaka, Acropolis, restaurants and the best part you can watch the change of guard from your hotel. You can watch it from the rooftop bar or if you have a balcony like we did facing the square. We were here on a Sunday so was able to watch the parade as well. Hotel is gorgeous and luxurious. Staff are amazing especially everyone at the Rooftop bar and cigar lounge. Breakfast was the best Katrina the lead manager and her crew were extremely attentive as we had nut allergies. They were accommodating and everyday they saw us walking in and our coffee was ready. Acropolis view from the rooftop is the best. Catch the best sunset or sunrise. Only downfall was the room service. After a hot day coming to your room at 3pm and still not made was a bummer but we get it, hotel was busy. But days like this you just want to come and shower ! We did get upgraded to the suite which was awesome and spacious. We were supposed to get a butler but didn’t hear from them till the day we left. Overall great location!

Our stay at the historic Grande Bretagne was absolutely fabulous. The property seamlessly blends old-world elegance with all the modern conveniences you could want. As Marriott Elites, the treatment and room upgrade we received were truly excellent. Dining Highlights: Breakfast: An unforgettable experience on the rooftop, offering a spectacular, world-class view of Athens and the Acropolis alongside a delicious spread. Il Giardino Segreto: We had great pizza here—a fantastic, delicious spot for a meal! The service here is world-class, and we want to extend a massive thank you to the incredible team who looked after us: Front Desk & Check-in: Elenne (1st floor check-in), Demetria (suite check-in), and Lemprini at check-out. Concierge & Bell Desk: Fanis at the bell desk and both concierges named George for their flawless assistance. Dining Team: Polyxeni, Kostos, and Katarina for starting our mornings perfectly. A flawless stay in Athens. Highly recommended!

I have stayed at Hotel Grande Bretagne, a Luxury Collection Hotel (Marriott Bonvoy), in Athens several times, with accommodations ranging from one of the hotel's suites to, most recently (August 2026), a standard room (Room 126). Here are my thoughts. The Good: The staff were friendly. The location is outstanding - right on Syntagma Square, next to the Greek Parliament building and just a stone's throw from Ermou Street, Athens' premier shopping district, with its many shops, restaurants, and attractions. Plaka is about a 10-minute walk away, while the Acropolis can be reached on foot in about 20 - 25 minutes. The hotel itself is luxurious, combining old-world elegance with every modern comfort one could wish for. The bathroom in my room was excellent, featuring both a separate shower and a bathtub (although Room 126 did not have a bidet). During one of my earlier stays in a suite, the bathroom even included a private steam room. The hotel also offers an outstanding breakfast buffet served in its rooftop restaurant, which features breathtaking panoramic views of Athens and the Acropolis. The Bad: There is really nothing significant to complain about without becoming overly nitpicky. The hotel is certainly on the expensive side (e.g., coffee at about €10), but that is to be expected given the level of luxury it offers. The Mixed: If I had to point out one minor criticism, it would be that the shower stalls, while very nice, are somewhat smaller than I would expect in a hotel of this caliber. They are perfectly functional and not inconvenient, but still a bit surprising in such a luxurious property. Attitude Toward Marriott Bonvoy Elite Status: Regretfully, not particularly good. I was thanked for my loyalty as a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite member, but no room upgrade was offered, and my room was not available until about 2:30 PM. Technically, that was still 30 minutes before the official check-in time, but it was nevertheless somewhat disappointing after a long flight. Summary: Hotel Grande Bretagne is an outstanding five-star hotel in what is arguably the best location in Athens and is, in my opinion, one of the city's finest luxury hotels. It offers elegant accommodation, first-class amenities, and convenient access to Athens' major attractions. I would stay here again without hesitation and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Athens, even if they are not Marriott Bonvoy members.
