Cititel Penang

I had a very disappointing two-night stay. Before my arrival, I requested an odor-free room, but I ended up having to change rooms multiple times because one smelled strongly of fresh paint and another had a damp, musty odor. By the time I finally found a room that felt acceptable, it was already exhausting. Unfortunately, the second night was no better. Someone was smoking on the same floor, and the cigarette smell drifted into my room. I barely slept that night, and my lungs felt heavy and uncomfortable. What surprised me most was that a 4-star hotel didn’t even have a proper air purifier available. While I understand that the hotel can’t completely control the behavior of other guests, I expected much better air quality management and a more practical solution. Overall, the entire two-night stay was frustrating and far from the standard I expected from a 4-star hotel. I have a course these few days that requires my full attention, and after this experience and a sleepless night, I truly regret choosing here as my place to stay. Update: Due to the strong cigarette smoke smell, we felt that we would not be able to sleep if we continued staying in the same room. Therefore, we called the hotel again and requested another room change. Initially, we were moved to another room that still had an unpleasant odor. Only after we strongly expressed our concerns were we finally transferred to a room that was partially odor-free. Compared to the strong cigarette smoke smell from the previous room, this room was at least acceptable enough for us to get some rest temporarily. Our purpose was never to seek any special treatment or privileges. After repeatedly packing and moving our belongings from room to room, we were already extremely exhausted. We simply wanted an odor-free and comfortable room where we could rest properly. We previously had a good experience staying at Cititel Mid Valley, which is why we chose Cititel again. However, we were truly surprised by the condition of Penang Cititel, especially the various odour-related issues affecting the stay. We understand that some building conditions may not be entirely within the hotel’s control. However, one practical suggestion would be to provide air purifiers or better air quality solutions to help guests rest comfortably when facing odor-related issues. We hope the hotel will consider a more proactive and solution-oriented approach in handling similar situations in the future.

I stayed at the hotel for two days over the weekend and had another wonderful experience. I love the location and the relaxing ambience. The breakfast was good, and I especially appreciated the complimentary water and juice station at the lobby area, which was very refreshing after being out in the hot weather. It's a thoughtful gesture by the hotel. The room was clean and well maintained throughout my stay. Housekeeping staff, Anwar, was friendly, attentive, and did an excellent job keeping the room clean and nice. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I've been a repeat guest for the past few years, and Cititel Hotel continues to provide great service. Keep up the good work, Cititel Hotel!
