From the moment you arrive at the entrance gate, you're greeted with class and elegance. Every detail has been thoughtfully curated, creating an atmosphere that feels truly out of this world. I genuinely felt as though I was having breakfast in another country. The décor is stunning, the food is beyond delicious, and the staff are warm, friendly, and exceptionally professional. What an unforgettable experience! I would recommend this place without hesitation and can't wait to return. A tip for anyone planning to visit: reservations are mandatory and must be made in advance on Dineplan. A deposit is also required to secure your booking, so be sure to plan ahead.

An absolutely incredible property that nails the essence of modern luxury. The interior design is spectacular, offering a luxurious, residential atmosphere with an impressive attention to detail in every corner. What makes the experience so memorable is the flawless, high-touch service. General Manager Atef Soliman has built a spectacular team here. The reception staff was welcoming and incredibly sharp, and a big thank you to Dutch and Ntombi on the F&B team for their standout hospitality and care during our meals. An exceptional stay from start to finish—highly recommended!

I was looking forward to my stay at the new Park Hyatt Johannesburg as it’s so highly rated, including being awarded one Michelin Key. Despite the rooms being small due to it being a restoration of an old colonial mansion, the property is absolutely gorgeous. Food is generally very good. Unfortunately everything else about my stay was unbecoming a Park Hyatt, with service being a complete disaster. Upon arrival, I was stopped by a staff named Doctor at the gate who asked for my purpose of visit. Upon telling him I was checking in and giving him my name, he checked the guest list, said there’s no such guest name and asked if I was at the wrong Hyatt (effectively insinuating I belonged at a budget hotel as the only other Hyatt in the city is Hyatt House). After some back and forth, they finally found my reservation and let me in. Even my Uber driver commented that the hotel should have let me wait inside instead of at the gate like I was an intruder. Once I was in the hotel, I was checked in by Karen, who seems to confuse professional luxury service with being clinical to the point of impersonal. She had a snooty attitude like she worked at an Hermès store and had the power to decide who deserved a Birkin. For instance, when she asked what time I would be checking out, I asked if 4pm was possible as that’s the typical checkout time for Hyatt Globalist guests. She gave me a look like I had the audacity to think I deserved such preferred treatment (she eventually checked and realized I was indeed deserving). She showed me to my room and asked if I needed anything. I asked if I could have two contour memory foam pillows. She reacted like she had never heard of those, but said she would check and get back to me. She never did. The hotel was very kind to prepare a welcome cake and some snacks in the room. If only I had the opportunity to taste it as housekeeping zealously removed it after a few hours. On my first night, the closet light couldn’t be switched off, which interrupted my sleep. The next day, I wanted to ask for help, but because this hotel has a bizarre setup of not having a reception, the only way of contacting the staff was via phone, or to ask the F&B team to get someone from the back office, which was what I did. I told Demi from the front desk about the issue; she said she would get it fixed. I also asked for an iron, and she said she would set it up in my room. Upon returning to my room after a few hours, the light was not fixed and no sight of an iron. I called front desk and was told Demi had knocked off and did not hand over any instructions. On my second night, I called front desk to request a couple of specific pillows from the pillow menu (which listed a memory foam pillow that Karen had not heard of). An hour later, nothing. I called again. Front desk then said they didn’t get back to me because they ran out of the pillows. A very reasonable excuse. I loved the complimentary car service for journeys within 5km and made full use of it. At no point was I told any of my destinations exceeded 5km and that those journeys would be charged. At checkout, I was charged for a few of those journeys to my surprise. The hotel should have been more transparent with these charges. Be warned. I went to the gym a few times during my stay. There was a water dispenser, but it had no water on all three days of my stay. To be fair, a few of the staff were excellent, such as Kjomotso from transportation/concierge, and Ntombi and Dutch from F&B. Kudos especially to Ntombi who saw us swatting flies from our food, and proactively brought us scent candles. This is what it means to anticipate guest needs. The complaints above may all sound petty. But when you’re staying at a hotel that charges US$400 a night in South Africa and calls itself a quiet luxury hotel, there should be certain expectations of service. Park Hyatt Johannesburg failed on so many counts. The common pattern is that the staff pays lip service but never delivers. Perhaps I should have listened to the Doctor and stayed at Hyatt House instead.
