Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge

Our family of four had the most wonderful winter bush escape at Kwa Maritane in June. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the warm hospitality, beautiful surroundings, and the relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. One of the highlights of our stay was the Boma Dinner Experience. The food was absolutely top tier, with a fantastic variety and delicious flavours, all enjoyed under the stars in a truly memorable setting. We also joined the afternoon bush drive, which exceeded all our expectations. We were incredibly fortunate to see the Big Five, and the sightings throughout the drive were simply breathtaking. The guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and made the experience both educational and exciting. The service throughout our stay was excellent. Every staff member we encountered was welcoming, attentive, and eager to ensure we had a fantastic holiday. It's clear that guest experience is a priority here. Kwa Maritane strikes the perfect balance between a quality safari experience and a relaxing family getaway. It was lovely to see so many international visitors enjoying the reserve too—it really speaks to the quality of the destination. If you're looking for a malaria-free bush escape that's ideal for families, offers incredible wildlife sightings, outstanding food, and genuine South African hospitality, Kwa Maritane is an easy recommendation. We left with amazing memories and would happily return.

We really enjoyed our stay at Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge. The lodge has plenty of amenities, including two swimming pools, a spa, a small gym, a restaurant, and even a hide where you can sit and watch animals if they happen to wander nearby. Our room was very spacious and had a lovely traditional African lodge feel. The rooms are serviced daily, which was appreciated. One thing to keep in mind is that some rooms are quite far from reception and involve walking uphill, so elderly guests or those with mobility issues may want to request a room closer to the main area. The staff were all very friendly, polite, and helpful. The restaurant offers buffet meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a good variety of food to choose from. However, we noticed that some dishes were cold when we arrived late after the game drives. You can also order additional food and drinks from the menu at your own cost. One downside is that complimentary water did not seem to be provided at the restaurant, so we had to purchase bottled water. The restaurant has a beautiful view of Pilanesberg, and sometimes elephants come close enough to watch while you sit outside, which was a special experience. The game drives were enjoyable and we saw plenty of wildlife. However, they can feel less personal as there may be around 20 people on the vehicle. If you’re unlucky, noisy or rowdy children can also affect the experience. Book a private game drive if you don’t want this to happen. The lodge also offers a shuttle to Sun City for ZAR195 per person and has a nice gift shop near reception. Overall, Kwa Maritane is a comfortable and enjoyable lodge with great facilities and a beautiful location.

We came as a family of four (2 children aged 12 and 8). It was our first ever safari experience and it was truly great! The hotel/lodge is clean, has all you need, staff are super accommodating. We came in August (winter) so it can be chilly in the morning and evenings. In the day it’s really warm with the sun out (we came from the UK). The family room was lovely, well decorated and comfortable. Housekeeping tend to all your room needs efficiently. They turn your room over a few times a day and leave little gifts on your pillow - signature chocolate imprinted with the lodge and picture of an animal or toffee. The restaurant has several buffet options available with something for all. Beverages were not included in our package including bottled water but they do fill these up daily in your mini fridge. We did not use the kiddies club but their daily schedules looked like fun. The safari experiences were amazing! The guides know their roles well and we were lucky enough to see all of the Big 5 in 3 game drives. Allow 3-4hours for each game drive. Wrap up warm during the winter months. They give you blankets but you need a beanie and warm layers even so. The highlight of our trip was the elephants who come near the restaurant from time to time to feed or drink water. Plenty of seating was available looking out into the scenery. The Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge is highly recommended by us.
