Overall, this hotel exceeded expectation. I had very low expectations because it was on a cheap side for a five star hotel. Room condition and customer service were good. The mattress and pillow could be much better. It felt like a good, not the best in class cruise ship where there is entertainment(theme park-looked so outdated, casino, movie theater), various dining options, other facilities(gym, pool, spa) that are enough to entertain you for a few days although they may not be best quality in market. Spa was good and it was reasonably priced and both pool and gym were clean and well managed. A few things to note. It felt highly China influenced hotel from staff, guests, and overall setting. There were staff who didn’t speak any Korean, but Chinese. The good thing was that the Chinese restaurants, both the decent one and cheaper one at Mariott building were really, really, good. But I’d choose other Korean hotels or small nice lodgings if you’d like to have more ‘Korean experience’.

Traveled to Jeju for the first time with my husband and he had used his Marriott points, we where able to experience this hotel. We were unaware of the size of the resort, but from being greeted the first night after our flight, to the lovely cleaning staff and assistants. We had a great time! Everyone’s English communication from front desk to restaurants inside was amazing. Would recommend for families, well earned vacations and couples to look into this location for your next stay! I hope we can visit once again. From movies, shopping to a amusement park attached to the residence there is plenty to do and see!

I’d tighten it considerably, remove repetition, and distinguish observable facts from your impressions. That makes the criticism harder to dismiss. My family has extensive experience with Marriott. My husband is a Lifetime Titanium Elite member and has stayed at hundreds of Marriott properties around the world. I also stayed at the Jeju Shinhwa World Marriott in spring 2019. The difference between that visit and our current stay is striking. The property now feels worn and poorly maintained. In our room, chairs were visibly stained, and the furniture and walls were nicked and scuffed. The hallways frequently smelled of stale food. The lobby restrooms had an unpleasant odor, with visible dirt and hair accumulated in the corners. These are not isolated cosmetic details; collectively, they gave us the impression of a property that is not being maintained or cleaned to the standard we expect from a Marriott resort. The service culture was equally disappointing. Our interactions with staff frequently felt focused on enforcing rules and controlling what guests could and could not do rather than anticipating or addressing guest comfort. Staff often came across as gatekeepers rather than hosts. The pool area best illustrates the problem. Marriott’s website currently shows the pool deck lined with loungers and umbrellas. That is not what guests will find today. The loungers and umbrellas depicted in those photographs have been removed. The complimentary poolside seating is now primarily upright tables and chairs. Comfortable poolside seating is available, but guests must pay an additional fee to use it. That distinction matters. We were not asking for an upgraded cabana or premium pool experience. We expected the basic ability to lie on a lounger and have some shade at a resort pool without paying an additional charge—particularly because Marriott’s own photographs depict exactly that setup. We raised this issue directly with hotel management. The response regarding the loungers was essentially: “Sorry, we moved the loungers and replaced them with tables.” In other words, this was not a temporary shortage of seating; management confirmed that the loungers had intentionally been removed. We were not offered a meaningful solution. My teenage daughter captured the experience succinctly: “I was more relaxed before I went to the pool than after I got there.” Prospective guests should also understand the nature of this property. It is extremely family-oriented and, during our stay, was filled with families with small children. That may be exactly what some travelers want, particularly given the surrounding Shinhwa World attractions. It is not, however, an environment I would recommend to travelers seeking a quiet, relaxing resort experience. What makes this stay particularly disappointing is that I have a direct comparison. I stayed here in 2019 and did not have these impressions of the property. On this visit, seven years later, we encountered visibly worn rooms and common areas, cleanliness issues, the elimination of basic complimentary pool amenities depicted on Marriott’s own website, and a service culture that felt more focused on rules than hospitality. After hundreds of Marriott stays worldwide, our family has a good sense of what Marriott can deliver. This property currently falls well short of that standard. The Jeju Shinhwa World Marriott needs refurbishment, greater attention to basic cleanliness and maintenance, accurate photographs of its current amenities, and a renewed focus on guest comfort. Based on our experience, I would not choose this property again for a relaxing Jeju resort stay.
