Hyatt Centric Delfina Santa Monica

I was disappointed with my stay at the Hyatt Centric Delfina Santa Monica. The biggest surprise was discovering that my room was only accessible by stairs. I never saw this disclosed when booking, and for anyone traveling with heavy luggage or mobility concerns, that’s important information to know ahead of time. Parking was another major downside. It cost over $60 per night, and this hotel isn’t even in the heart of Santa Monica. To make matters worse, self-parking was nearly the same price as valet, so there wasn’t much of a cheaper option. Housekeeping also missed some basics. Our lotion dispenser was completely empty and toiletries hadn’t been fully replenished before we checked in. The room itself had another annoyance: the air conditioning unit prevented the blackout curtains from fully closing, so light came into the room early in the morning. The one bright spot was the bed. It was genuinely comfortable and I slept well, which is the only reason I’m giving this hotel a second star. For the price, I expected much better attention to detail and transparency.

From the moment I arrived, I knew my stay would be exceptional. The concierge team was incredibly attentive and friendly. Since I arrived early, I only expected to drop off my luggage, but staff proactively searched the system to find an available room so I could check in immediately. My room smelled wonderfully clean and featured luxurious, silky bedding alongside a beautiful view. The bathroom was equally impressive, complete with high-quality toiletries and a beautiful marble shower/tub. Thanks to the cool, dark, and quiet atmosphere, I slept perfectly. Additionally, the pool area was pristine, offering comfortable furniture, fresh towels, and a relaxing view of palm trees.

The hotel is in a good location, but the room felt dated and had a serious soundproofing issue. Our room had a connecting doorway that appeared to be filled with a sofa-cushion-like material rather than properly sealed. We could see light coming through from the adjoining room and hear almost everything next door very clearly. The front desk later told us that most rooms at this hotel have connecting doors. Unfortunately, the neighboring room had young children who started repeatedly playing with a spring doorstop around 5–6 a.m., creating constant noise while the parents did not intervene. This significantly disrupted our sleep. The front desk staff handled our complaint responsibly and offered to move us to another room. We ultimately did not move because the neighboring guests checked out. I appreciated the staff’s response, but the dated room and poor sound insulation were significant enough that I would not stay here again. If you do stay here, I strongly recommend requesting a room without a connecting door. For parking, the Civic Center Parking Structure is a good option.
