I had a wonderful and restful stay at the Hotel Schweizerhof Zürich. Located directly across from the main train station, the hotel offered incredible convenience for getting around while still providing a vibrant city-center feel. The service was very good and very convenient throughout my entire visit. My room was exceptionally quiet, which made it easy to catch up on much-needed rest after a long day of touring the city. In the morning, heading down to breakfast was an absolute delight. Being greeted by such warm and welcoming energy made the experience feel remarkably cozy and personal. The staff took wonderful care of me, making it an ideal choice if you are looking for a seamless, comfortable travel experience in Zurich.

Everything at Hotel Schweizerhof elicits a wonderful sense of old-fashioned luxury and charm. From the welcoming doorman and the classic decor (well-maintained but shows a bit of age), to the thoughtful touch of fresh flowers and fruit on every floor as well as the turndown service, the Schweizerhof ticks every box of a top-tier hotel. Service throughout was polite and accommodating. Special thanks go to Ms. Deborah Beer, who kindly managed to switch us to a room facing the main station, providing the lively atmosphere we prefer. The room features were excellent—the electrically adjustable bed and the innovative hairdryer holder are genius design touches. It was quite warm when we visited Zurich, so the powerful in-room air conditioning was a true blessing. I especially loved the provision of a sample of the Louis Widmer eye contour cream. It was so great that I bought two jars to take home, as it is the only eye cream I am not allergic to. The only major caveat was the breakfast at La Soupière. While the atmosphere is undoubtedly elegant, the service felt decidedly pretentious and superficial; you could tell from the staff's eyes and attitude that they lacked genuine hospitality. Having frequented numerous 5-star hotels and Michelin-starred establishments globally, I found both the venue and its patrons to be somewhat posturing. Food quality was just mediocre—for instance, the Eggs Benedict or poached eggs with avocado were not up to standard, making it feel like a restaurant coasting on its past reputation and classy outlook. All in all, given the hotel's unbeatable proximity to the main station, it remains a solid choice for a stay in Zurich.

My wife and I stayed at the Romantik in Grindelwald for 4 nights and were very pleased with our stay. Convenience to the town center and rail center were great. The addition of a/c would be a plus as during our late July stay the room was warm in the afternoon. We would like to recognize two team members for the excellent service and care. Kamil in the restaurant and Leonard in the lobby bar were outstanding in their service and kindness. We highly recommend this hotel.

Zurich.
A new story every day.

Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland. It sits at the northern tip of Lake Zurich and spreads along both banks of the Limmat River. If you want a lake, a river and a first look at the Alps in a short trip, it is a sensible place to start.
More about the city
What to see in Zurich
- The old town and the Limmat bank: narrow lanes, bridges over the river, and the Grossmünster and Fraumünster churches.
- Bahnhofstrasse: the main shopping street, running down towards the lake.
- Lake Zurich: a walk along the shore or a boat trip.
- The Rhine Falls and Lucerne: both appear as day programmes in MBD tours from Zurich.
When to go
In July and August the average high is 25 degrees. In June and July rainfall passes 140 millimetres a month, so pack a rain jacket for summer. January averages a high of 4 and a low of minus 2 degrees. Christmas market tours in November and December include Zurich.
Getting there from Turkey
Most MBD tours that include Zurich are Dream Triangle tours, which join Switzerland, France and Germany on one route. They depart from four cities (Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya), run 3 to 4 nights, and fly with Turkish Airlines or SunExpress. Dates and prices are on each tour page.
Who it suits
Travellers who want several cities in a short time, and those who like a city with nature close by. If you plan a long stay in Zurich alone, compare hotel prices first.
