Clarion Hotel Karlatornet

The location will bloom in the coming years, but as of 2026 this area of Göteborg is a big building site with lots of construction ongoing. Close to the University campus the hotel is in a good location, and I would like to come back once it's all put together as it is impressive with the transformation ongoing. That being said, there is zero noise inside, the rooms are clean and hightech enough to satisfy everyone (even the USB-C charging needs). Breakfast buffet is as expected at Clarion hotels, full of choice and great produce. Staff is friendly, helpful and happy to help.

The marketing is misleading. The photos suggest you are booking a stay in the iconic tower, but the hotel is actually the smaller brown building next to it. The surrounding area is unpleasant, with heavy construction, dirt, and very little atmosphere. It is also located on the less desirable side of the river, far from where you actually want to spend time. The room experience was just as disappointing. The heating did not work, and despite asking reception twice to fix it, nothing was done. We ended up sleeping in a cold room every night. Housekeeping was unacceptable. Apart from making the bed, no real cleaning was done. The floors remained dirty, were never vacuumed, and the sheets were not changed during our stay. I have photos to prove it and I have attached them here The spa was the final letdown. It is extremely small, crowded, and not clean. The pool is tiny, the towels are worn out, and the overall experience feels cheap. Charging a high entrance fee for this is hard to justify. Overall, this stay felt far below what is promised. It does not live up to its image, and I would not return.
