Volendam is a colourful town on the IJsselmeer shore, once known as a fishing village. Beside the harbour you taste slices of cheese and fresh seafood, and it is possible to compare several ages of Dutch cheese side by side. A promenade along the waterfront, timber houses and boats round off the tasting.
Anyone with a dairy or seafood allergy must say so beforehand. The wind is cool on the shore, so a thin jacket helps. A short walk along the quay after the tasting is pleasant.
