At Mutianyu, a cable car handles the ascent and the walking starts up on the wall itself. As the cabin rises above the trees, the Great Wall slowly appears along wooded ridges. Up top, strolling between the towers gives you height and view in the same step.
Wear comfortable shoes, dress in layers and look for open gaps between the towers for your photographs.
