Laguna de Guatavita is a round lake held sacred by the Muisca people, and the legend of El Dorado is said to have begun here. A guided walk follows a path that bends through scrub and mist. Reaching the shore, the silence and the legend seem to fit together.
The trail climbs and altitude can leave you breathless, so go at an easy pace and pause often. Bring trainers, a rain jacket and water. In mist, the lake looks more mysterious. Layers will serve you when the weather turns.
