Historic Stari Grad streets in Kotor
Kotor · Montenegro
About this experience
At the head of the Bay of Kotor, the walled Stari Grad is a maze of narrow stone lanes, small squares and medieval churches. Steep mountains rise behind it while the calm water of the bay lies in front. Cats sit on corners, coffee is sipped, and history is read street by street.
Stone lanes are slippery, especially after rain, so choose shoes with firm grip. The bay looks wider from outside the walls, so a short pause before the gate is worthwhile. Summer midday is hot and crowded, and morning or late afternoon is easier for walking.
