At a Nairobi centre that protects Rothschild's giraffes, you meet the animals up close from a raised platform. The long-necked giants lean in and take feed pellets from your hand. Seen from this near, you notice the long eyelashes and the colour of their tongues.
A giraffe's tongue feels damp and rough, so keep hand wipes close. Hold your palm flat when feeding and avoid sudden moves. The platform is short and level, easy for families with children. Coming eye to eye with a giraffe is the platform's real advantage for photographs.
