At the entrance to Batu Caves near Kuala Lumpur stands a huge golden statue of Murugan. A tall staircase climbs to a Hindu cave temple inside a limestone outcrop. Inside, the ceiling opens, daylight falls into the cave and the temple takes on a calm atmosphere.
The staircase has many steps, so climb slowly. Macaques may snatch food and bags, so keep yours closed. Clothing that covers shoulders and knees suits the temple area. The cave is humid, so carry water.
