Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom are the two great centres of the Khmer Empire. At Angkor Wat, stone reliefs in the long galleries tell scenes of war and legend; at Angkor Thom you reach the gates, temples and terraces of the walled old city. Moving between the two shows the scale of the empire.
Clothing that covers shoulders and knees is required. Bring water, a hat and sunscreen. Comfortable non-slip shoes are best, and starting early in the day gives you time for both sites.
