About this experience
In the Tunisian town of El Djem, a Roman amphitheatre rises from a flat plain. Known as the largest Roman amphitheatre in North Africa, it lets you see stone tiers, corridors and the space beneath the arena floor. Despite its scale it can be explored close up.
The site is open and shade is scarce, so bring a hat, sun cream and water. Morning and late afternoon light bring a warm tone to the stone.
